Backstory:
This is a break-up song to which most people will be able to relate. Many years ago, I was in love with a woman that I thought I was going to marry. This was not a one-sided relationship. She had asked me to marry her on more than one occasion. I was certain that eventually, we would get married.
Then one day, I looked at her and she was not the same person. Everything about her was different, but especially the look in her eyes. The person I knew and loved was gone. I searched for her emotionally, but I could not find her.
After that experience, I sat down and wrote this song. The Lord used the break-up to humble me and show me that I didn’t really know anything and that I was not really in control of my life.
As a result of this experience, I went on a search for truth, a search for God. Initially, I was reading a new age book and the Bible at the same time. However, the word of God spoke to me and gave me peace. I didn’t understand it, but I could not deny it. The more I read the Bible, the better I slept at night. I put the new age book down, but 27 years later I am still reading my Bible and enjoying the peace that surpasses all understanding. Over the years, through all the ups and mostly downs, the Lord has been faithful. He has granted me an ever expanding revelation of Jesus Christ as our Lord, Savior, Master and King.
If you have experienced the pain of a break-up, I pray that you would use that pain to drive you into the loving arms of your Savior, Jesus Christ, and allow Him to heal your heart.
